    [ I’m rolling my eyes at a uselessly vague data flow diagram someone has pushed across the table at me. ]

    Me: Look, we need to get this tightly defined before I start building the actual database. I can’t just cobble it together on the fly, because if things start changing once I’m programming there will be delays, possible mistakes, stress, hand-wringing, a wailing and a gnashing of teeth, CATS AND DOGS LIVING TOGETHER…You get me?

    [ Wide-eyed nods around the table; someone clears their throat; there is a whimper. ]
